Elemental Concepts in Art with Calvin deRuyter
Calvin deRuyter will be teaching a 6-week class each Wednesday from July 10-Aug 14 on the Elemental Concepts in Art. Each session is three hours long and will begin at 10:00 am at Handcrafted by Noni studio, 5601 County Road 21 SW, Alexandria. This class is sponsored by the Alexandria Art Guild in Alexandria, MN.
This class is not about how, or what, Cal paints! The pivotal point about the elements and concepts of art is the fact that certain things hold true no matter the paint medium you choose, or the style you paint—from hyper-realism to non-objective abstract. The elements and concepts will give you a foundation for approaching your own art, and hopefully allow you to grow in your own art journey.
You can sign up for just one or take them all! Each 3 hr. class is just $35. (Calvin recommends if you take “Line” or “Mark Making” that you take both.) Click on the links below to sign up for each class. Contact Noni with any questions at noniob@gmail.com
From Calvin:
Each class will begin with a general slide show on the particular topic of the day, i.e. line. The slideshow consists of many artists in different styles, and it usually leads to great discussions among the class. Then in most cases there will be a short exercise to broaden the classes’ view on the topic. Then the class is open to your own art, where hopefully you try to apply something of the lessons "seen" in the slideshow...and I will be available to assist, guide, or even maybe push you a little to reach beyond where you might otherwise go. And, again, this will be art in your own medium and your own style! I am also available to offer constructive critique on pieces you are working on. For those who have taken the class in 2023, the 2024 classes will have different slides and exercises as well as a longer timeframe, so the class should be fresh even if you have taken it before—and there are a couple of new sessions!
